Bob Powell, born Stanley Robert Pawlowski in 1916, was a highly influential comic book artist and writer during the Golden Age of comics and beyond. He gained recognition for his versatile and prolific career, contributing to various genres, including horror, crime, superhero, and science fiction comics. Powell is perhaps best known for his work on horror and suspense titles. He played a pivotal role in the success of "Black Cat," a popular horror comic published by Harvey Comics in the 1940s. His eerie and atmospheric artwork, often featuring grotesque monsters and chilling scenarios, added to the appeal of the horror genre during that era. In addition to his work on horror comics, Powell made significant contributions to other genres. He co-created and illustrated the character Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, one of the earliest and most enduring female heroes in comics. Powell's detailed and dynamic artwork brought the character to life and helped establish her as an iconic figure in the medium.
